Definition: 1697 Dabar - A masculine noun meaning word, speech, matter. This frequent word has a wide range of meanings associated with it. It signified spoken words or speech ( Ge 11:1; Isa 36:5; Je 51:64 ); a command or royal decree ( Es 1:12,19 ); a report or tidings (Ex 33:4 ); advice (Jdg 20:7); poetic writings of David (2Ch 29:30 ); business affairs (1Ch 26:32 ); a legal cause (Ex 18:16); the custom or manner of activity (Es 1:13 ); and something indefinite (thing, Ge 22:16). Most important was the use of this word to convey divine communication. Often the word of the Lord signified the revelation given to prophets (2Sa 7:4; Je 25:3; Ho 1:1). Similarly, the Ten Commandments were literally called the ten words of the Lord (Ex 34:28; Dt 4:13).

The Hebrew language is known to be the first language of creation. It provides us with great clues concerning God’s original purpose. In ancient Hebrew, the term for word and thing is identical, namely dabar. This clearly shows that your words, once they are spoken, will eventually become things. The words you speak will materialise as events, circumstances, reports and results.

The original purpose for this dynamic law was to use words in a creative way to generate overflow and abundant life, and to fill the whole earth with it. This means that words were designed to be spoken to bring abundant life and overflow to you, and through you to be multiplied to the ends of the earth.

We are living in a time of great acceleration and our words may be consolidating into things and situations faster than ever before.

All truth is parallel. This means that it can be applied to both the natural and the spiritual world. In a natural kingdom, the word of the king is law. When the king speaks, his words become law instantaneously.

The same is true in the spiritual. When the King of kings speaks, His words become law instantaneously. God’s Word is spiritual law.

Simply stated, God creates by speaking. When He speaks, things happen in the supernatural Kingdom of Heaven and affect all other kingdoms forever. From the beginning, words have been the dynamic vehicle of creation. A word contains creation in seed (that is, microscopic or minuscule) form. This means that each word is loaded with dynamic creative potential and fully equipped to make it a reality.

An apple seed, for example, contains an entire apple tree, as yet unseen, and all the trees that will come from it in the future. In the same way, a word contains all effects and chain reactions that it will produce once it is spoken. As you say it, it will start to work. The instruction is: Say it, and you will see it.

When you speak, you are planting seed. Each word you speak is a seed and it will follow the law of seedtime and harvest. Once the word is spoken, the seed will start to grow. I have seen that the idea that words can grow into something material may challenge people who deny the existence of spiritual reality and dismiss anything invisible as “spooky.”
