Herman's Notes. The term from everlasting here literally means, beyond the vanishing point. The word usually refers to looking forward but many times expresses the idea of looking backward. Thus, Jesus is from a time going backwards beyound the vanishing point, acording to the Strong's Concordance, which is a Hebrew dictionary, which the writers of the New Testament used. They did not create words in order to express themselves. Nor, did they use a French dictionary. Furthermore, words mean different things in Swahili than they do in Hebrew. 1 Colosians 2:13 tells us that the Holy Ghost teacheth by comparing spiritual things with spirituasl things. All usages of the term "from everlasting" means from eternity past. Let us look at some other usages of the phrase "from everlasting" in order to support this definition. Psalms 41:13. Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen. Psalms 90:2. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. Psalms 93:2. But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; Psalms 106:48. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. Isaiah 63:16. Herman's Notes. In conclusion when comparing scripture with scripture, there is no scripture that even implies that you stop going backwards at some point. The very idea that you stop going backwards is inconsistent with the term everlasting.
