1 Corinthians 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. Herman’s Emphasis There are tongues of men and there are tongues of angels . __________________________ Acts 2:4, 6 4) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 6) Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. Herman’s Emphasis Some men understand a tongue of men. Therefore, these were tongues which some men understood, even without an interpreter. __________________________ 1 Corinthians 14:2, 4 2) For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him ; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 4) He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. 14) For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. Herman’s Notes An unknown tongue is tongues of angels for no man understands it. __________________________ Acts 2:38-39 38. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Herman’s Notes All men who repent and are baptized receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. ________________________ Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; Herman’s Notes All believers, through the Holy Spirit, posses the ability to cast out demons and to speak with tongues of angels which no man understandeth. It is up to each person to make an on purpose and deliberate decision to open the gift which he has been given or it will just sit under the tree unopened. The gift of the tongues of angels is administered through the gift of the Holy Spirit. ____________________________ 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 7) But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8) For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 10) To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: Herman’s Notes Verse 10 says some men (not all) are given the gift of interpretation. Some men are given the gift of the tongues of men. There is nothing to indicate that everyone who is given the gift of the tongues of men, is also given the gift of interpretation. Quit the contrary, more likely than not the following is true. __________________________ 1 Corinthians 14:27- 27. If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 28. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. 29. Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. Herman’s Notes Verse 29 defines what’s most likely. Let one speak and let another judge (interpret). Furthermore, verse 28 tells us that if there is no interpreter present (understanding you are present and you can’t interpret), then go home and speak to God and not to men. It doesn’t imply that you should stop speaking because you can’t understand what you are saying. Furthermore, we are told the following: __________________________ 1 Corinthians 14:13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. Herman’s Notes The fact that you are praying for the gift of interpretation makes it clear that you don’t have it. Nevertheless the scripture doesn’t forbid you from speaking. Quite the contrary! __________________________ 1 Corinthians 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. __________________________ 1 Corinthians 14:22-23’ 22. Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: … 23. If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? Herman’s Notes The reason why you should pray for the gift of interpretation of tongues of angels is that, so in addition to edifying yourself, you can edify the church. Tongues are a sign for those who don’t believe. Believers, don’t need tongues to convince them that what you are prophesying is from God. Believers, can judge your prophesy and determine weather or not it is from God. The unlearned really don’t know if your prophesy lines up with the word of God or not. Nevertheless, before you can edify others, you must edify yourself. You can’t lead where you won’t go and you can’t teach what you don’t know. Likewise, you can’t edify others if you can’t edify yourself. _____________________________ Romans 8:26-27 26) Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27) And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Herman’s Notes Thus far it has been demonstrated that praying in the tongues of angels is for the edification of self and the edification of the church through prophesy. Romans informs us that sometimes we don’t even know what to pray for, particularly concerning intercessory prayer. Nevertheless, God’s spirit understands our spirit, even when our mind can’t understand. Therefore, we pray without understanding in order to address unknown issues. _____________________________ 1 Timothy 2:1-2,8 1 I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men; 2 for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity. 8 I desire therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and disputing. Herman’s Notes When we pray for a thing it moves God to act in alignment to how we prayed. Therefore, God desires us to pray, even when we aren’t sure what the precise issues are. Conclusion In this article I have demonstrated through God’s Word that: 1) There are tongues of men and there are tongues of angels. 2) Men understand tongues of men. 3) No man understands tongues of angels. 4) Tongues of men are used to talk directly to men, that men may bear witness to the supernatural nature of the phenomenon. 5) Tongues of angels are used to communicate directly with God, for no man understandeth. Witness is bared through the words of an interpreter. Without an interpreter un-learned men will think that you are a barbarian. 6) Tongues of angels without an interpreter are used for edification of self. 7) The spirit of God understands the spirit of man, even when the mind of man is unfruitful in understanding. This is important in intercessory prayer as well as self confidence in edification of self. It is important to know that God hears and understands your prayers even when you can not articulate all the issues. 8) God desires men to pray in order to act in the earth realm.
